Far from the crowd was Pope Francis who had a rest day after his tumultuous welcome to Brazil. The 76-year-old who raised security concerns after his car was mobbed on his journey from the airport will celebrate mass on Thursday the highlight of World Youth Day.

What struck me straight away, though, was the similarity in styles of Paulinho and Capoue. Just like Sandro, both are strong, physical midfielders who will probably do very well in this league but who, alongside the disappointing Mousa Dembele in central midfield, denied the visitors any variation from the middle of the park.
