こんにちは！

春休みも終わりに近づいてきましたね。就職活動を機に、将来についていろいろ考えるのですが、やはり大学卒業後に就職せずに病児保育の世界に飛び込んだフローレンスの駒崎代表の覚悟はすごいなぁ、ひしひしと感じる今日この頃です。

今回のコラムは、インターンで私が所属していた部署、ソーシャルプロモーションについてがテーマです。では、コラムをお楽しみください。

インターン生平田による、ソーシャルベンチャーレポート。
大学での学びを活かして、ソーシャルベンチャーとしてのフローレンスについて、ご説明できたらと思います。

ソーシャルプロモーションという言葉をフローレンスのビジョンの図でご覧になったことがあると思います。会員のみなさまにおいては、最もなじみのない言葉であるかもしれませんが、病児保育問題を解決するにあたりキーとなってくるのがこのソーシャルプロモーションであると私たちは捉えています。

ソーシャルプロモーションとは、社会問題を広く世間一般に広めることでその問題に関して知る人、興味を持つ人、行動を起こす人を増やしていこうという考えのもとに成り立っています。特に、フローレンスでは、病児保育問題という社会的課題が存在しない社会ー子育てと仕事の両立があたり前にできる社会を目指し、人びとが行動を起こしていくことを主眼としています。

ソーシャルプロモーションの主な内容に関しては、メディアの方に取材をしていただく他に、講演会にお招きを受けたり、行政の方の政策形成のお手伝いとなるようにヒアリングをお受けするなどが主な仕事です。考え方としては、一般の企業のPR・広報などと似ていますが、単にフローレンスのサービスを広め利益を上げるのではなく、より長期的な視点で社会問題の解決を早めるための手段として捉えています。

社会問題の解決のためのプロモーションと言うと、なんだかとても難しいことのように思えてしまいますが、今は私たち一人ひとりが情報発信を行える時代です。例えば、ちょっと気になる問題や素敵だ、と思った活動ををブログに書いてみることで不特定多数の人にその問題や団体を友人だけでなく不特定多数の人に知ってもらうきっかけを作ることもできます。

つまり、個人個人が何かに対して意見を持ち、それを発信し続ける、それに共感する人が増え大きなうねりとなっていく。そんなことが様々な分野の社会問題で起きていく、それが私たちフローレンスの夢でもあるのです。2008年を、みなさまと素敵な年としていけるようフローレンススタッフ一同、がんばって参りたいと思います。

Whatever the cause, the results demonstrate that our understanding of predation of songbirds, and of nest failure in general, in places where there are lots of cats (i.e. in towns and cities) is far from complete. In particular, we may sometimes blame crows and magpies for nest predation when the real culprit is already dozing in front of the fire several streets away. It also suggests that well-meaning efforts to reduce the number of birds killed by cats may be misplaced at best, or even counterproductive. Collars fitted with bells are widely recommended, but their effectiveness is suspect, and if they serve to make cats even more obvious to birds, they may simply provoke even more alarm calls and aggressive behaviour, making the problems described above even worse. Research shows that the best predation deterrent is a CatBib "pounce protector", but even this would have no effect on the problem identified here. The only certain solution is to keep cats permanently indoors, which most cats find perfectly acceptable, and is normal practice in America. It's harder work for cat owners, though, so I can't see it catching on.
