 【イベントレポート（感想編）】アキュメン・ファンドのジャクリーンさんと語ってきました！

2008年2月8日（金）にETIC.&Japan Society主催「アキュメン・ファンド代表ジャクリーンさんと語る会」が開かれました。VenturePhilanthropyの授業を担当したチームJOAMBの真理子（中山真理子）とあゆみ（坂崎あゆみ）が参加してきたので、レポートします。アキュメン・ファンドについては、こちらをご参照くださいませ。

アキュメン・ファンド代表ジャクリーンさんと語る会を終えて…

ジャクリーンさんの講演は私にとって、いつかどこかで壁にぶつかって足が止まりそうになったときでも、この日の事を思い出せばきっと前に進める。そう強く思える、一夜でした。

世界を変えるんだ。と、大の大人が真剣に言っている。しかも、どうせやるならそれを楽しみながらやりたい。そんな事をさらっと言ってしまうジャクリーンさんに私はあっけにとられると同時に、抑えられない高揚感を覚えました。

 ジャクリーンさんはちょうど１０日ほど前に、暴動によって街が一面焼け野原になってしまったケニアに行って来たそうです。たくさんの人が、マイクロファイナンスによって自分のちいさな事業をじっくり、じっくり、始めていたところでした。しかし、暴動によって、一夜にして、街は何もなくなってしまいました。ジャクリーンさんがまだ焦げ臭い匂いの残る広場に着くと、たった一人、男の人がぺしゃんこのイスに座って、ありあわせのものを並べて売っていたそうです。どう考えても、だれも人は通らないし、買いそうにないのに・・・

「なぜ、ここでそんなことをしているの？」

「何もかも燃えてなくしてしまった。わたしが持っているのは、これだけ、希望だけなんだ。」

「私に何かできることはある？」

「店を始めるためにマイクロファイナンスで借りたお金を、今までは、店の利益で少しずつ返済していた。でも、店が焼けてしまったから、今までのペースでは返せない。返せない分を、償却してくれたらうれしい。そして、次の店を始める資金を貸して欲しい。」

 「施しはいらない。僕をまたこじきに戻さないでくれ。僕に自分の人生を変えるためのインセンティブを与えてほしい。（Don't give me a grant. Give me an incentive to change MY life.）」

「貧しい人々の声に耳を傾けて。(Listen to the poor.)彼らは助けるべき、可愛そうな、何か与えなければ何もできない人ではない。途上国の人々に必要なのは、施しではなく、尊厳（dignity）であり、エトスを持って水、住居、健康に出会える道やチャンスをつくることがわたしたちの仕事なんだ…

とジャクリーンさんはいいました。


ジャクリーンさんのこの話を受けて友人の坂崎あゆみさんはこうコメントしました。

「水も、住居も、健康も当たり前のように手に入れられる日本に住む私わたしたちだって、本当にほしいものは、誰のものでもない”自分”の人生を変える、もしくは創っていくそのためのインセンティブ、生きることへの尊厳。これは、途上国であろうと、先進国であろうと誰もが求めている、人類共通のものなのかもしれない。 」

ジャクリーンさんは本当に強い信念を持った方でした。特に心に残っているのが、彼女の下記のコメントです。

「私の好きな歌の歌詞に、「私達は、私達がまっていた世代なのだ（we are the ones we are waitingfor）」というフレーズがあります。時は熟したと思うのです。今、私達は、私達一人一人が世界を変えることができる、そんな時代に生きています。

まずは一歩進んでみることが大切です。二歩目は、あなたが踏み出した世界が教えてくれます。私がアフリカから帰ってきて、MBAにいたとき、「アフリカだ！世界を変えるんだ！」なんて事を考えていたのは私とあと一人のクラスメートくらいで、とても孤独な思いをしていました。でも、今、母校を訪ねると、クラス中がそんな事を考えている。あなたが一歩進んでみて。そしたらきっと彼らは後からあなたについてくる。」

"Don't be afraid to dream big,for we count on you to change the world"
（大志を抱くことを恐れないで。だってあなたが世界を変えるってみんな頼りにしているんだから。）

 上記は先輩がジャクリーンさんから頂いたメッセージです。

あの日の夜は興奮でいっぱいになって、今も思い返すとその余韻を感じます。

あのときに感じた興奮と感動、それをいつまでも胸に、一歩ずつ、あせらず、ゆっくりと進んでいきたい。改めてこのように文字に書き起こしてみて自らに強く誓った私です。

The choice of Meg Whitman was not a wise one but what can be expected of a an ossified Board that lacks imagination and apparently also lacks business acumen. That is a double headed disaster that require urgent action but by whom? Shareholders are disempowered and there is nothing to stop the coming slide except, dare it be said, bankruptcy. What a shame to run this magical corporation into the ground.
